A Hybrid Fault Tolerant Architecture - White Paper by exida on the RTP 3000 System (PDF)
|
| |
Overall the RTP3000 system provides a very flexible architecture where a system may consist
of several different architectures depending on the criticality of the application. In its simplest
form, a hybrid 1oo2/1oo1D architecture is used to achieve high safety integrity for the deenergize
to trip mode. Additional modules may be added to expand the architecture to
2oo3/2oo2D to achieve both high safety integrity and high availability. The system provides flexibility, CPU performance, high safety integrity and high availability. |

Selection of an SIS for Maximum Process Availability (PDF) |
| |
When selecting an SIS, the user should consider the impact that the SIS may have on the process
it protects. One objective, certainly secondary to the objective of protecting life, property, and
the environment, should be to interrupt the process as little as possible. |

RTP Celebrates 40-years of Providing Technological Excellence |
| |
RTP Corp. employees and guests celebrated RTP's 40th anniversary on March 18, 2008 capped with a catered luncheon. This celebration comes after a stellar 2007 in which RTP achieved another record year of bookings and profitability. RTP intends to continue this pace of increasing market share and profitability by selling premiere safety system technology and developing the next generation safety system technology desired by the process industry. |

RTP Corp in Turbine Automation: Seeking Service, Reliability, and Speed (PDF) |
| |
RTP markets the 2300 DCS and 2500
SIS systems for process automation and critical control. Besides being a pure
high-performance platform, these systems have three other characteristics that
suit them for turbine automation.
- The systems provide simplex, dual-redundant, or triple-modular redundancy
automatically as redundant hardware is added.
- The 2300/2500 supports a large number of intelligent I/O modules including
a high speed intelligent servo card with LVDT input and a high
speed counter card for speed control applications.
- A typical application of these intelligent I/O modules is for turbine
overspeed protection. When turbine overspeed protections is implemented
using the module’s fully independent processor, the module
complies with American Petroleum Institute requirements for overspeed
protection.

RTP provides a valuable, high availability platform for Wellman, Inc. (PDF) |
| |
Wellman Inc. manufactures high-quality polyester
products, packaging resins and polyester fibers.
They needed to replace a 30 year-old legacy control
system at one of their sites and wanted to
move to a long term supplier strategy as they had
several different legacy systems across the company
at the time. They started out with the usual list of “household” names
in the control system supplier domain, but found that none of them really
matched up to their needs, so they broadened their horizons to include
RTP. After a series of stringent tests at RTP’s factory and lab, followed by
visits to a couple of customer reference sites, the system selection team was
able to convince their management that RTP should be Wellman’s supplier
of choice for their 5 year legacy system replacement project. |

The Intelligent Servo Card, the third in the previously announced line of intelligent I/O modules (PDF) |
| |
Now OEMs and owners of rotating machinery can experience a new level of performance and availability from their equipment. With scan rates of this module between 1000 to 2000 (0.5 - 1 ms) scans per second depending on the size of the application, higher efficiencies will be achieved based on being able to control the machine closer to the limits of the original design. |

Intelligent I/O Modules (PDF) |
| |
RTP, announces the ability to distribute control functions among intelligent I/O modules.
Now the user has a choice to run an application entirely in a central processor or to run
very high-speed or critical functions, or functions that need to run independently of the
main processor, in separate intelligent I/O modules. |

Safety System Report |
|
The RTP 2500 SIS System has a hybrid architecture that uses a set of advanced design techniques to provide SIL 3 safety integrity and high availability. Safety integrity and high availability are achieved on a system that also provides an unusual level of architecture flexibility and computing speed (25 msec. scan rates). This combination of safety integrity, high availability, flexibility and performance sets new levels of expectation among safety PLC users. |
